Nye Saunders has successfully secured both planning permission and listed building consent for the refurbishment of School House at King’s Ely, which includes proposals to introduce two new glass canopies.

School House has a rich history dating back to the late 11th century, originally serving as a granary before being converted into monastery guest accommodation in the 13th century. Following the re-founding of Ely Cathedral in 1541, it became part of King’s Ely and remained the school’s only boarding house until 1882.

Widely regarded as the oldest residential building in Europe, School House represents an extraordinary piece of architectural and educational heritage. We look forward to helping preserve and enhance this Grade I listed landmark for future generations.
