We are delighted to share these stunning images of the newly completed Edwardian style, detached property in Busbridge, Godalming which Nye Saunders designed on the site of an existing double garage.
Located on a residual strip of land to the side of the client’s main house, careful design was required to overcome the site’s relatively narrow plot and close proximity to neighbouring buildings in a street scene of many contrasting styles and ridge heights. A large copper beech tree also presented a challenge in terms of mitigating the council’s concerns about future ‘pressure to fell’.
A contemporary, large, open plan, kitchen/living space to the rear of the house provides the volume and space the client required for modern living. The traditional style and proportions of the front part of the house, ensure the property sits comfortably in the street scene. The original design and planning consent also incorporated a large basement however this was later omitted to reduce the build cost.
A pre-application consultation with Waverley Borough Council prior to the planning application ensured a smooth ride through the planning process resulting in planning consent being granted.
Nye Saunders provided full architectural services for our client, including working drawings package, written specification and competitive tender.
Following receipt of tender returns, the client decided to sell the site on to INH Developments Ltd who completed the work on this beautiful home.
