Nye Saunders Ltd, with Philip Stone, FRICS, have obtained planning permission for the conversion of a modern timber framed barn in a rural location near Dorking in Surrey. The barn is located in the Green Belt and within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so it could not be converted under permitted development. This presented quite a planning challenge, but with a combination of high quality design and a thorough planning argument, consent was achieved.
The conversion provides four bedrooms, with open plan living space and an integral garage. The elevations are predominantly timber clad to reflect the agricultural nature of the barn but detailed in a crisp and modern way.
