REFURBISHMENT, REMODELLING & EXTENSION

Guildford, Surrey

Nye Saunders were consulted to assist our clients in transforming their 1950s property in Guildford. The house had an urban setting but with far reaching views over the countryside at the rear, where various extensions had been added.

The brief was to give the property a contemporary feel and make the most of the south light and rear views with a large open plan kitchen and living space being the focus internally. Nye Saunders guided the transformation of the building by rendering the external walls in white and dark grey with feature areas of timber cladding in a plank then batten arrangement to introduce texture.  The timber was provided by Russwood whose SiOO:X treatment ensured the timber went a beautiful and consistent grey by accelerated weathering, so the colour comes through in 6 to 12 months as opposed to the normal 3 to 4 years. This aged wood does not need further treatments or maintenance.

The roof tiles were replaced with the more modern looking slates and a gable and entrance porch created at the front to give the property more presence in the street scene. The rear is dominated by glass with a large render feature beam bringing it all together. The large sliding doors are from Smart Systems and ensure maximum glass to minimum aluminium.

Internally, a large kitchen is recessed into the walls with clean crisp lines (provided by Creative Designs).  Internally, glass doors provide views through the entire house from the front door to the rear sliding doors provided by Jennyfields.

The first floor master suite has been designed with a separate dressing area and ensuite bathroom, ensuring the bed space remains uncluttered. A vaulted ceiling and large windows ensure a light open space. The bathrooms have a modern feel with recessed cupboards to keep the clean lines. The feature sinks and baths are from LUSSO and provide attractive detail.

Nye Saunders guided the project through planning and oversaw the works on site alongside PWJ Whitmarsh as the main contractor, with Perega providing the structural engineering input.
